ا - The letter Aleef denotes Allah. - لٓ - The letter Laam denotes La Ilaha Illa Huwa which means none other than Allah Who controls the whole of the universe. مٓ - The letter Meem denotes Muhammed.
29:1. This Book, containing Pre-Directed Guidelines to the Mankind, has been revealed by Allah, the controller of the whole of the Universe, through Muhammed sal
29:2. Do the people think that by orally accepting Allah and living according to their own course, they would not be in any trouble?”
Not so. Mere accepting Allah by words or reciting Kaleem-e-thiyyiba, do not end the matter. Everyone's life will be better, only if he accepts His guidance and acts accordingly. (See 4:136) And that society will not be in trouble.
29:3. Many societies that have lived before this by merely accepting Allah verbally and acting as a substitute for it, have perished as per the law of “consequences of human deeds” prescribed by Allah, the same thing will happen to the people now. That is, the truth of who is true to the guidance of Allah and who is a liar will come to light.
This is the condition of those who accept Allah with their lips and act against His guidance. Now, look at the situation of those who reject Rabbu's guidance outright.
29:4. Are they the ones who obviously refuse to accept the guidance of Allah, commit evil deeds, destroy the country and think that no harm will come to them? Can they escape the clutches of Allah's Law of “consequences for human deeds”? Not at all. Their decision will be proved to be very bad.
29:5. Let those who accept that they must face the “consequences of human deeds” prescribed by Allah, do creative good deeds with concern for the present and future welfare of the people of the country. This is because they know that its benefits, which Allah has ordained, will surely come in due time. Surely, the hearing power of Allah and the all-knowing power are infinite. So, what man says and does will never depart from Allah.
29:6. And let the society which continues to work in the best way as Allah has shown, that it works for its own good and those who do not work in such a way will be rewarded accordingly. Otherwise, there will be no ups and downs for Allah. The reason is that Allah is self-sufficient.
29:7. So if they accept the guidance of Allah and devise creative welfare schemes accordingly, their bad habits will be removed from them. And they will reap many beautiful benefits as a result of the good deeds they do. Let no one doubt this.
What are the more beneficial actions? Also, learn how to follow them. For example, society will prosper only if your families improve. Therefore
29:8. We advise you to fulfill the needs of your mother and father beautifully. So, these are your obligations. (See 4:36 & 31: 14-15) But if they ask you to follow other means equating with laws of Allah without clear knowledge of guidance, then you need not be submissive to either of them. Because every action you take leads to the goal set by Allah. So, there is surely accountability of what all you do.
That is if you act on what the mother or the father says and if it is against the guidance of Allah, the law of consequences, as prescribed by Allah, will not change. For example, if they ask you to divorce your wife, you do not have to submit. You have to know what happened according to the advice of Allah and act accordingly. (See 4:35) So be aware of the difference between serving and obeying your parents.
29:9. Thus those who know what Allah's guidance is in every matter and do creative good deeds accordingly will find themselves on the list of great achievers.
29:10. Some of the people will orally accept the guidance of Allah. But they will act in such a way as will jeopardize the welfare schemes of Allah's rule. So, when problems arise, they consider all these as tragedies from Allah. They will be lamenting that we got into trouble unnecessarily.
At the same time, if they have an advantage, they will rush in and say, “We are with you.” But isn't Allah, the Supreme Power of knowing all the happenings of the world?
29:11. So Allah does know who are those who willingly accept the guidance of Allah and act accordingly, and who are the hypocrites who are different in appearance and different in activities.
29:12. On the other hand, listen to the statement of those who refuse to accept His guidance, they tell the followers of guidance, “Live according to our custom. We will take care if something goes wrong. We take responsibility for your evil deeds.”
While they cannot bear the burden of their sinful deeds, how can they share the burden of the sins of others? So, they are all liars. Do not follow such people.
29:13. Yet if they mislead some, they will have to bear the burden of their sins as well as the sins of those who have gone astray. All the things they plotted will become clear in the time when the consequences of evil deeds will appear.
Thus, their talk is nothing new. This is how social unrest has been going on for a long time whenever a reformist preached to the people. Historical sources say the same thing.
29:14. The same thing happened in the time of Reformist Nooh. The community that followed him escaped from the danger there. Following that, the teachings of the Reformist Nooh existed among the people for nine hundred and fifty years. (i.e. Noha’s Era was 950 years) Later on, the community developed into “Aadhu” Empire (7:69) and they became unjust. They were eventually caught in a storm and doomed.
29:15. Those who followed him boarded the ship he had prepared and escaped. Those who opposed the teachings of Reformist Nooh perished in the deluge there. (See 11:37) This historical event is a lesson for all future peoples of the world.
Those who engage in evil activities lose the mental maturity to accept any advice. So, when Reformist Nooh made a warning about natural disasters, they did not care. Thus, they perished. The Era of Reformist Ibrahim (Judaism) begins after the era of Reformist Nooh
29:16. Reformist Ibrahim said to his people, “Obey only the guidance of Allah. Live in fear of the adverse consequences of acting as a substitute for them. Only by living like this will you get a better life. If you think about it wisely, you will understand the truth.”
29:17. He also opposed the idolatry practiced by the people. He said to his people, “You have neglected the guidance of Allah and are kneeling before the idols which you have made to fulfill your needs! The condition of man, the greatest of all worldly creations (see 17:70), is so bad. And you are deceiving people by telling fictional stories in the background of every idol!
What! Do they have the power to provide you with the livelihood you need? Leave all this behind and work to fulfill your needs through nature’s management system created by Allah. (See 53:39) Distribute your livelihood equally to all people and be grateful to Allah. Every action you take leads to the goal set by Allah. So, if you change this, you will surely face the consequences.”
29:18. And he said, “I will not be discouraged if you people do not obey the counsel I give. Because many communities that lived before you have been denying Rabbu's guidance in this way. Therefore, it is my duty to teach His guidance which I have received to the people.”
29:19. He further said, “Stop living in superstition and examine the functional systems of the world. Do you not notice how each of them progresses from the beginning to the end, grow gradually, and reach the ultimate goal which He has framed without any difficulty?”
29:20. And you need not blindly accept my advice. Look around the world for yourself. How do the creations of the world appear? How do they pass on so many stages? How does each of them contribute to the creation of a new creation? Know such things well and then accept the call I make towards Allah. You will realize that Allah, Who created the world and determined the rule for each one of them to function, has great infinite power. Explain these facts to the people.
The same legal frameworks as prescribed for other creations apply to human lives also. According to them, the consequences of man's actions will gradually grow and appear before him.
29:21. Those who engage in evil deeds will be subjected to torment according to the rules prescribed by Rabbu. There are many blessings for those who do creative good deeds. Man can nowhere escape from these laws of Rabbu. (See 11:56)
29:22. No one can change these rules set by Allah. So, there is no other way but to follow the guidance of Allah for your better life. No one else will stand by you to remove your sorrows.
29:23. He added, “Any society that does not accept the guidance of Allah and the consequences that Allah has ordained for their deeds will be disappointed by losing the blessings of Allah. And they will suffer a lot.”
Thus, Reformist Ibrahim taught the people many times. (See 6: 76-80) All but a few of the people did not listen to his advice. So, he decided to take drastic action against idolatry and broke the idols. People became furious when they saw the statues being broken. They began to speak angrily against him. (See 21:57-68 & 37:86-98)
29:24. So the people of the community were angry and said, “Kill him, or put him in a fiery furnace.” What else can they do? But, because the Reformist Ibrahim migrated on the advice of Rabbu (see 29: 26, 37: 98-99) the tumultuous fire of the people was extinguished. Thus, Allah saved him from their plot. So, there are many lessons for people of faith in this incident.
That is to say, if people are to be corrected away from idolatry, one must initiate to do the work of wiping out the grief of the people. Then with the support and admiration of the people, we can create a better society. Efforts should be made to correct the people by highlighting the benefits of following the guidance of Allah. Only then, over time the excessive affection for idols will diminish and they will realize that they are all unnecessary for human life. That is why Reformist Ibrahim had to leave and go abroad. And he finally said in his message to the people.
29:25. “All that you worship the deities, setting apart from the guidance of Allah, the Sustainer of the worlds, is because of your affection for them. Apart from this, there is nothing special about them. They do not give you any guidance. (See 10:35) Thus, all the wrong things that you are doing appear to be beautiful to you. (See 29:38)
At the time when the consequences of your actions will appear, you will be cursing each other At that time, no one will come to save you from your misery. That way, wherever you go, it will be hell.”
No one listened to his advice. Although very few admitted his speech (see 21:65) no one fully accepted him.
29:26. So the only one who fully accepted the advice of Reformist Ibrahim was his cousin brother Looth. He said, “Surely I emigrate from this city to seek the guidance of my Rabbu. All of Rabbu's plans are supreme and are based on all wisdom.”
That is to say, Rabbu's plans are so good and wise, but they did not accept them, so he left and went to a place where it was convenient to carry out the His mission. This is what Hijrath is. Similarly, he went to the fertile land of the Western belt, where he founded and operated a community service center called Millath.
It eventually evolved into a government organization called Millath-e-Ibrahim. The main objective of the Millath was to eradicate the injustices taking place in its country and its environs and to create a peaceful secure society.
Thus, he worked best for the peace of the people of the country. For a long time, he was without the blessings of a child. Then, in his old age, a son named Ismail was born. Then later on Ishaque was born. (See 14:39)
29:27. Later on Reformist Ibrahim had a son named Ishaq and then a grandson named Yaquoob. Not only that, but their descendants received the status of Nabi and great reformists. As a result of their excellent behavior, they all lived and ruled the world better. (See 4:54) Not only that but they will all be better energetic in the life Hereafter.
29:28. In the same way, Reformist Looth was sent to his community. He was heartbroken to see the inappropriate activities of his community. He was severely reprimanded for committing such a heinous act that no one had ever done in the world.
29:29. He asked several times, “You are looking for men to curb your lust. Is this correct? Not only this, you are indulged in piracy and looting. You are doing hateful things in your assembly too. Have you ever considered the consequences?”
But they did not listen to his advice. Instead, they said, “You often threaten us with dangers under the law of “consequences for human actions”! If it is true, then let Allah bring that torment.” Apart from this, there was no change in their action.
29:30. So, he prayed with grief, “O Rabbu! Help me to protect myself from such a corrupt community!”
Thus, the community lost all chances to change. So, they have no choice but to perish. The following message comes to Reformist Ibrahim.
29:31. Some men came to Reformist Ibrahim with the message of Almighty. The messengers greeted him for peace and said, “Surely the city of Sadhoom is going to perish according to the Pre-Determined Laws of Allah because it has crossed the limits of heinous deeds.”
29:32. When Reformist Ibrahim heard this, he was startled. He said, “Is Looth there?” They said, “We know that. So, we will tell Looth this message and instruct him to save himself. But his wife would not heed that precaution. So, she will be one of the extinct. Otherwise, those who belonged to the Reformist Looth will escape from that destruction. “
29:33. Similarly, when the messengers of Rabbu told Looth the news, he was deeply saddened to think about the people. He was embarrassed by the impending doom. When they saw this, they said, “You have nothing to fear or regret about them. Your wife too will not escape from that devastation either. Otherwise, you and your dependents will leave here. (See 11:81) You will be safe from that destruction.”
29:34. It is natural for the society which is thus immersed in sinful deeds to perish according to the framed laws of Rabbu! The reason is that the community rejects all the advice of the reformist regardless of his precaution. (See 26: 173) So they were trapped in a volcanic eruption. (See 11:82)
29:35. That was how those societies perished. There are clear lessons to be learnt from this for people who think and act. (See explanation 26: 174)
29:36. Similarly, the Reformist Shu’ayb of Madyan said to his people, “Obey only the guidance of Allah. Think about the consequences of acting against His guidance. You are working to amass wealth and create disharmony in the society.”
29:37. But the people of that country did not accept any of his advices. They did not heed the warning of an earthquake that would follow. (See 26: 174) So the earthquake struck them. Thus, they were buried head over heels in their homes at dawn.
Reformist Shu’aybh and his companions, on the advice of Allah, left and escaped from the earthquake (see 11:94).
29:38. In the same way, the people of ‘Aadhu’ and ‘Samoodhu’ faced destruction according to the Pre-Directed Laws of Allah. There are still some signs of where they lived. You excavate those places to know the truth. Their mental inclinations made their evil deeds appear as beautiful deeds. So even though they had the intellect to think and act, they could not leave their evil deeds and come to the right path. So, they could not escape from the devastation.
29:39. Likewise, the wealthy and tyrant king Fira’un and Haman the priest, who led the people astray, perished. Reformist Moosa cited clear evidence to them as well. But they were also arrogant and oppressed the poor in the country. But were they able to escape from the destruction that befell them?
29:40. Thus, every nation has been caught in the trap of destruction according to Our established Laws, as a result of the sinful deeds they have committed. The disasters came in the form of severe storms, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Some communities were submerged in the flood. Some were buried in the earth.
But only one thing is clear. Allah never sought to destroy them. Injustice on the part of Allah never happens anywhere. He sent messengers to guide them. But they harmed themselves, despite Rabbu's advice and timely warnings.
29:41. The example of those who take other than Allah as their protector is like the web of a spider. The house it builds for itself will be very fragile. If they knew this, they would know that what they were taking in parallel was too weak.
That is, Allah's guidance seeks to create a superior, stronger nation for the protection of people from all walks of life. Without understanding this, they follow other methods. Thus, they think it is special to crush the weak and retain the power of his rule. They are like a spider that builds a web, traps insects that are weaker than itself, and uses it as food. But if an animal stronger than itself attacks it, it will run away without being able to resist. The house built by it will not work either. If the state retains its power by weakening the poor common people like that, it will fall, when it is attacked by a stronger country. Any regime that ignores the guidance of Allah and makes its own laws will be as weak as the web of a spider.
29:42. Allah knows the true state of any society which deviates from the guidance of Allah and rules by other means. But the rule that is based on the guidance of Allah will be the greatest rule of all and the rule of wisdom. (See 9:33)
29:43. We give such examples, so that the people of the world may understand the facts. But no examples will work for the people who have no capacity to think about.
29:44. All the schemes of Allah, who created and maintains the universe and the earth are for creative higher purposes. Do not think that something is amiss. Those who accept this and act very carefully will also understand the truth about the purpose of their life.
That is, they know that worldly life is the first stage of their life journey and will act accordingly and prepare for the next stage of life after death. If left unmanaged, they can be left astray and lose the right path. Realizing that the society they are creating will also be prone to problems, they will act better.
Thus, the natural laws of Allah, which operate in all the universes, also function in human life. Therefore
Part: 21
29:45. O, Reformist! Explain to the people from the Scripture that Allah has given to you, and advise them according to it. Thus establish the “Social Service Center” which guides the society. Only then, the vile and evil deeds in society will diminish. In this way, you can prove that the advice of Allah is the best in the world. Keep in mind that Allah knows everything you do.
If the community is left without the advice of Allah, the people there will become selfish. Everyone will focus on accumulating as much wealth as they can. This widens the gap between the haves and the have nots. Those have-nots will suffer. In addition, there will be immoral acts in society, such as murder and robbery. To stop this, we need to create a society according to Rabbu's guidance and establish a system of social governance that will enable people from all walks of life to live better. It is important to get the support of the people for this. That is why it is urged to establish the Salath system to function as per the guidance of Rabbu.
The scribes there will oppose this new approach. When they have their own Scripture, they ask what is necessary for the new Scripture. But changes have been made in the Scriptures they have. (See 2:59)
29:46. Explain the truth to them in a beautiful way and try to guide them except those involved in blatant misconduct. They can be remedied with another method. Tell them, “We accept the Scriptural truths they have and point out that Rabbu of us all is one. Tell them that we all obey only to His commands for the welfare of the common people.”
29:47. O, Reformist! This Scripture is given to you on the same basis. Therefore, those who have been given the Scripture before will also accept the Scriptural advice contained therein. Some accept this Scripture as a complete conversion. Those who have already decided to reject these written truths will not accept them. Others will accept these.
Those who do not accept this Scripture are jokingly saying to the people that this reformist reads the previous Scriptures, taking a copy of it. (6:105)
29:48. But you had not known how to read any book before the Scripture was revealed. You can't even write. They know this fact too. It would make sense for them to be skeptical if he was so literate previously
From this passage, we learn that the Reformists Mohammed Nabi learned to read and write after the revelation of the Scripture. Only then, he could confirm that the final Scripture he would leave in this world, the Holy Quran, had been properly written and compiled. (75:17-19)
29:49. But those who have mastered the wisdom of education will meditate on these teachings. Their hearts will tell them that these are truly clear guidelines. But these are incomprehensible to the unjust who blindly oppose without thinking thus. So, they do logic.
29:50. Therefore, such people are asking as to why miracles were not sent down to the Messenger from their Rabbu. They will also ask why Allah does not come and speak directly to us. (See 2: 118) When Allah's innumerable miraculous creations are before their eyes, they do not notice them. So, tell them, “It is not my job to do the magic you expect. Instead, I have come to warn you about the consequences of wrongdoing.
29:51. Is it not enough for them that this Quran is given to you as a guide for their better life? Is it not enough for them to get rid of all their problems if they follow its advice? It is a boon for those who accept His guidance.
What’s so significant in showing magics for a moment? Is going to help their life in any way?
29:52. The consequences of our deeds are in accordance with the framed laws of Allah. These bear witness to our claim. (See 6: 135) What better witness could there be? Allah is the Knower of all things in the universe and the earth. The truth is that those who refuse to accept the guidance of Allah and live in superstition, their situation will worsen. Only then will they understand what is true.
29:53. If you tell them this, they ask as to when the torments would come? They ask you to bring them. There is a time limit for each action to have its own consequences. (See 16:61) Had it not been done so, the retribution would have come to them immediately. However, the consequences of the wrongdoing they are doing are gradually happening without realizing it. They suddenly appear in front of them. Let them understand this fact.
29:54. For this, they ask you to expedite the afflictions. Is it an interesting thing to look forward to torments? (See 16:1) Indeed, the torments of Hell are all around them.
29:55. At such a time when torments come to them from all sides and surround them, they will be under such a situation that will tell them to taste the rewards of the evil deeds they were doing. (See explanation 6:65)
29:56. O followers of the Guidance! Leave the atheists in their course. The earth of Rabbu is very vast. So go to a place that is best for you and try to put these plans into action. (See 4:97) You will surely reap the benefits only if you implement these plans with the support of the entire population.
29:57. What will happen maximum in such an endeavor? Only your life will be lost. Yet, who is going to live forever? Death will happen to everyone. No matter how you live, death is inevitable. (See 2: 243 & 4: 78)
29:58. Therefore, it is the promise of Allah that among the believers who have accepted the guidance of Allah, those who devise creative social welfare schemes will have eternal life with generous economic facilities and will hold high positions. What a blessing it is to have such a life!
So, the promise of Allah will surely be fulfilled whether one lives or dies in this world. So, get down to the work for social reform as a courageous supporter.
29:59. Such believers will persevere in their projects. They will act with perfect faith in Rabbu's guidance.
29:60. If you start acting like this, you will be thinking about your future. Look at the countless creatures in the world. Do they carry the food they need? They seek food from time to time according to the decree of Allah. (See 11: 6) If you too migrate to fulfill Rabbu's plans, will you not find the means of subsistence therein?
29:61. O, Reformist! Ask them who created the universe and the earth and subdued for you the sun and the moon. They will immediately answer that it is Allah. Those who accept that it is Allah who controls the world over, want that there should be no intervention of Allah in their lives! Is this correct? Thus, they deviate from the right goal of life!
29:62. Consider the livelihood of living beings. What is the action plan of Allah in it? Those who work efficiently are getting ample livelihoods. Livelihoods are shrinking for the unskilled. These are also adapted to human labor and its circumstances. Know that the power of Allah is in control of all things.
29:63. And ask them who sends down rain from the sky and give life to the lifeless earth. In response, they will say that it is Allah. Thus, when all the schemes of Allah are glorious, how much better it will be if the man also establishes his social system according to the guidance of Rabbu. Wouldn't such a society be admirable? Even so, most people do not come forward to pay attention to it.
29:64. And such people take the life of this world as a mere sport. They lead a life of temporary luxury, without thinking about the future. How much better would it be to work for present happy life along with future eternal life and act accordingly?
He will have no lofty ambition before him if he makes his life for mere temporary happiness. Such people will not be able to face any danger. For example,
29:65. When they ascend a boat, they will pray to Allah as if they fear Him. As soon as they reach the shore, they forget everything neglects Allah as before, and act selfishly.
29:66. Thus they will spend their wealth which Allah has bestowed upon them voluntarily and enjoy temporary pleasures. So let them enjoy the pleasures. Surely, they will know their consequences soon!
And the truth would have been clear if they had thought about the situation in the city of Makkah and its environs.
29:67. The towns around Makkah are in dire straits because they do not follow the guidance of Allah. But peace prevails in this Kaaba, which is full of sectarianism, following the His guidance. Even after knowing this, do they follow false guidance and lose the blessings of Allah?
29:68. Who will be more unjust than he who fabricates falsehoods against Allah, or when he has been given the right guidance for the betterment of man? After he was duly informed of the guidance of Allah and their merits, the place where such people go is hell.
29:69. On the contrary, those who work tirelessly for social harmony in the way shown by Rabbu will surely be guided. Keep in mind that Allah is always with the doers of good. This is the definition of the word Jihad
